While the beauty of inflatable paddle boards is their versatility, there’s no hiding that some are more specialised than others. Take touring boards as an example - carefully crafted SUPs designed to be more competitive than their all-round counterparts. With promises of increased speed and effortless cruising over long-distance, a touring board could be the perfect choice if you’re looking to upgrade beyond beginner-level paddling skills.
Given the exciting promise of a touring board, it should come as no surprise to learn that we’re big fans of this type of paddling here at Red. In fact, we jumped at the chance to include four new touring boards in our all-new Future Series range and bring the touring experience to even more paddlers than before. So, in honour of our new touring paddle boards, let’s take a look at 5 undisputable reasons why you should give one of these SUPs a go in 2025…
One of the key advantages of touring paddle boarding is the significant improvement in speed and stability you get in straight-line tracking. While touring boards may lose some of the versatility of an all-round board, they more than make up for it in efficiency on the water. These capabilities could make all the difference if you’re planning to tackle an endurance event or challenge this year and need a durable board that can work as hard as you will when long-distance paddling.
Due to the larger size of our touring paddle boards (up to 14’0”), they also come with the added benefit of more space to carry all of your SUP gear. This is a really handy feature of these boards, especially as they’re naturally suited to longer trips that will require you to bring more kit. With our Future Series, we’ve also taken storage one step further by incorporating a six-point bungee cargo system with extra rear cargo points into our touring board design. This subtle design feature is incredibly helpful for keeping plenty of gear safe and secure when you’re out on a touring paddle boarding trip.
As we’ve touched upon, the fundamental design of a touring paddle board is very different from an all-round board. Where our all-round boards have rounded tips, you’ll notice pointed tips and a longer and narrower design in all four Future Series touring SUPs. These features, combined with the rigidity of our leading MSL technology and a sport fin, help our touring paddle boards to maintain higher speeds and remain resilient no matter the prevailing conditions.
If you’ve been paddling for a while and you’re looking at kicking things up a notch, touring boards make a good challenge. The features outlined above - greater efficiency and the toughest construction - are the perfect upgrade for experienced paddlers looking to get a little more out of their time on the water. Whether your goal is to train hard this year or simply discover new coastlines which may be a little more challenging, a touring board is the ultimate high-performance companion.
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of discovering new SUP spots and, thanks to their refined shape and optimised tracking, a touring paddle board is also the best choice if you’re planning to ramp up your sense of adventure and explore further and for longer this year. The narrower and elongated design of our range, paired with the pointed tip, allows these boards to cut through the water with ease and cover long distances efficiently on your next trip. If you’re ready to visit new coastlines, lakes and rivers this year, it’s a touring paddle board you want to take with you.
